Newton's Law of Motion

Newton's First Law of Motion: An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion at constant velocity unless acted upon an unbalanced force.

1. What forces are being exerted on a pressurized rocket on the launch pad?

2. What is inertia?

3. What combination of unbalanced forces sets a rocket off in an upward direction?

Newton's Second Law of Motion: Force = Mass x Acceleration

1. What are the applications of the formula F = M x A, while the rocket is on its way up?

2. How is upward force of the rocket calculated ? How is the downward force during ascent calculated? Does the force exerted by the rocket change during ascent?

3. How is force calculated during the descent of the rocket?

4. What are the applications of the formula, F = M x A, which the rocket is on its way down?

5. What are the applications of the formula: Acceleration = Force/Mass for a hydro-rocket?

6. How will you SEE the implications when different rockets are launched?

Newton's Third Law of Motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

1. What are the primary ''action and reaction" forces involved with launching a rocket?

2. What action - reaction forces are involved during impact? (when the rocket hits the ground)
